Abstract

Global warming has led to frequent drought disasters in our country, severely restricting the yield and quality of tomatoes. Under drought stress, plants induce stomatal closure to reduce water loss. Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) functions in the stomatal movement of plants under drought stress, but its regulatory network remains unclear. In previous studies, the applicant found that overexpression of the downstream target protein SlSPRH1/2 of tomato MAPK inhibits stomatal closure under drought conditions. Through yeast two-hybrid screening, an inositol synthase protein, SlMIPS, was identified to interact with SlSPRH1/2. It was found to be localized in guard cells and to regulate stomatal movement in tomatoes under drought stress.
