Post-symposium activities

On Thursday afternoon and evening, several optional activities will be available for symposium participants.  


Afternoon visit to the Iron Pagoda Park
The pagoda was built in 1049 during the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127). With a history of more than nine hundred years, it is one of the earliest constructions made of glazed bricks and tiles in China. It got its name from the iron-grey colour of its glazed bricks.

The Chrysanthemum culture festival will be taking place at the same time as the symposium, and the Iron Pagoda Park often features displays.  Visit duration 1.5 hour

Entry costs 55RMB (including shuttle bus from Pullman hotel) 

Evening show in Millennium City Park
Located in the Millennium City Park, this live-action performance, directed by director Mei Shuaiyuan, includes 700 performers presenting an impressive large-scale water and acrobatic performance based around the classical Song poems of the Dream of Hua. Prior to the show there will be time to explore the Millennium City Park, which is a large historical theme park with antique markets, folk customs and ancient royal gardens.

Tickets cost 325RMB (including shuttle bus from Pullman hotel)

Attendees should pay on site for these activities at the tour desk. 

Kaifeng

Kaifeng is a city with a rich history, a wide range of attractions to visit and different parts of the city to see.

Daxiangguo temple is a famous Chinese Buddhist temple with multiple ornately decorated halls and statues. 

The Iron Pagoda was built in 1046 during the Northern Song Dynasty and is intricately decorated with Buddhist and mythical images. It is situated in a large park next to Henan University with a range of botanical elements to look at.

The magnificent Kaifeng museum is home to tens of thousands of historical artifacts and a wide range of Chinese art, with a large volume of Song Dynasty artifacts and history.

Millennium City Park is a grand historical garden which recreates the famous 'Riverside Scene' painting by Zang Zeduan, painted during the Song Dynasty. The architechture captured in the painting has been carefully reconstructed and there is a daily programme of performances by actors wearing traditional Chinese clothing from the time.

Dragon Pavillion is a reconstructed grand hall from the Qing dynasty built on a 13-meter high blue-brick terrace. It is set within a botanical garden containing two man-made lakes.
