Application of multi-omics to plant-fungal interactions
A two-day pre-symposium workshop on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 June 2024.
Led by Miranda Hart and Jason Hoeksema
Diverse -omics techniques, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, are increasingly capable of being applied to diverse questions in plant-fungal ecology, including invasion biology. These techniques are also evolving extremely quickly, resulting in a diversity of pipelines and practices, but also diversifying the questions that can be answered. The aim of this workshop is to synthesize current and potential applications of -omics techniques in understanding plant-fungal interactions, highlighting the most promising and inspiring approaches, and how they can move the field forward.
On the morning of Day 1, we’ll hear talks from selected workshop participants on how they are applying -omics approaches in their own research. These presentations will stimulate ideas and inspire discussions on how -omics approaches can be applied to plant-fungal interactions. The afternoon of Day 1 will feature a practical component, introducing participants to the details of metatranscriptomics, including an overview of definitions and workflows, as well as an example workflow with explanations.
On Day 2, participants will work together to outline and begin drafting a Community Resources paper on the topic, for eventual submission to New Phytologist.
The workshop is open to individuals not attending the symposium and there will be no charge to attend. However, attendees will need to fund their own travel, food, and accommodation. Additional nights of accommodation at Casa do Professor Visitante can be added for £50 a night single occupancy (£40 for students or ECRs), or £55 a night double occupancy if requested by 30 May.
The workshop is limited to 25 attendees. 3 places remain - please email np-symposia@lancater.ac.uk to enquiry about a place.
